about

Essentially, each of the tracks on "Output Signal" were produced in a fairly similar fashion. The general technique was to spend some some arranging some original drum patterns on a particular drum machine, run the machine signal through a chain of effects/mixer/processors, and then sample into either the SP404 or the SP303. A that point I'd chop the sample down as needed, layer on the vinyl comp and reverb (and other options like slicer and delay if desired), and get a nice grid of rhythm patterns made up. I really liked using the Roland D2 drums and the Korg ER-1 drum programming on this album.
From there on out, it was just a matter of mood and sound in order to record the final song that was being aimed for. I think that it features a pretty decent blend of instrument arrangements (pianos, organs, guitars, etc.) with more "tones"/synth sounds. But in either case, pretty much everything on this album was composed and then sampled into the SP404/SP303 before getting recorded on the Tascam 2488.
Like most of the FLIPTRACY records that have been released, there are some pretty obvious possibilities to sample bits and bars from them to create an entirely new beat - which is one of the reasons that a record like "Output Signal" is created. The overall soundscape provides a wide pallet of original composition and music to pick-and-choose from for sampling, whether it be for multimedia/film usage or songwriting. Or, of course, just let it play out!
