Each track on "Modify The Setting" is one-minute long, and they individually reflect a uniquely abstract presence. All of the drum samples were produced with a combination of the Korg ER-1 and EA-1 boxes and the SP303 and 404 samplers. The basic gist was that they were created, then manually sliced and rendered, patterned again in the sampler, then re-recorded. This music collection was completed over the course of about 6 weeks or so (some of it with a busted-up wrist from skating, wrapped-up so tightly it was turning my fingers purple). Sticking to the shortened time restriction formed an interesting environment in which to produce the various layers of instruments and sounds over the percussion. Extra attention to the stereo horizon and panning makes for a pretty spherical experience with good headphones! Mainly, I wanted to produce a collection of to-the-point electronic beats that each emphasize some of the more conceptual routes I take with hardware samplers, drum-machines, and synths.
